The term itself comes from the root \u0938\u0941\u092e\u094d\u0928 (<em>sumna<\/em>), which means something desirable, magnificent with a strong prefix \u0938\u0941 (<em>su<\/em>), where the &#8220;s&#8221; is transformed according to the sandhi rules into &#8220;\u1e63&#8221;, thus the word\u00a0<em>su\u1e63umna<\/em> (very gorgeous) appeared. It comes up from the name that this channel is worthy of extremely serious perception, and <em>Siddha-siddh\u0101nta-paddhati<\/em> and a number of other texts describe it as a goal (<em>lak\u1e63ya<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes there are translations of the term, like where the sun&#8217;s rays are. Obviously, this context comes from such early texts as <em>Taittir\u012bya Samhit\u0101<\/em> (3.4.7.1):<\/p>\n<p>\u0938\u0941\u0937\u0941\u092e\u094d\u0928\u0903 \u0938\u0942\u0930\u094d\u092f\u0930\u0936\u094d\u092e\u093f\u0936\u094d\u091a\u0928\u094d\u0926\u094d\u0930\u092e\u093e \u0917\u0928\u094d\u0927\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0938\u094d\u0924\u0938\u094d\u092f \u0928\u0915\u094d\u0937\u0924\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0923\u094d\u092f\u092a\u094d\u0938\u0930\u0938\u094b \u0935\u0947\u0915\u0941\u0930\u092f\u0903 |<br \/>\n<em>su\u1e63umna\u1e25 s\u016bryara\u015bmi\u015bcandram\u0101 gandharvastasya nak\u1e63atr\u0101\u1e47yapsaraso vekuraya\u1e25 |<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to (<em>su\u1e63umna<\/em>) moon, shining with the rays of the sun, is <em>g\u0101ndharva<\/em>, and his\u00a0<em>\u0101psaras<\/em> (companions of <em>g\u0101nharva<\/em>) are the\u00a0<em>nak\u1e63atras<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Further, it follows from the text, that this is described in the context of a fiery <em>yaj\u00f1a<\/em>, where the fire also relates to\u00a0<em>g\u0101nharva<\/em>, the radiant rays of the flame &#8211; to\u00a0<em>\u0101psaras<\/em>. In fact, the fire of<em>su\u1e63umna<\/em> is the interiorised fire of the external\u00a0<em>yaj\u00f1a<\/em>.
