{"id":504,"date":"2018-07-08T04:44:18","date_gmt":"2018-07-08T04:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/matsyendranatha.com\/?p=504"},"modified":"2018-07-08T04:51:31","modified_gmt":"2018-07-08T04:51:31","slug":"two-nadi-shuddhi-pra%e1%b9%87ayamas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/matsyendranatha.com\/?p=504","title":{"rendered":"Two n\u0101\u1e0d\u012b-\u015buddhi pr\u0101\u1e47\u0101y\u0101mas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In\u00a0<em>Ghera\u1e47\u1e0da Sa\u1e43hit\u0101<\/em> (4-35-44), at first, purification of <em>nad\u012bs<\/em> is given in the form of using the alternate breathing technique with breath holdings, using <em>bijas<\/em>, which we can find in tantric rituals, such as <em>bh\u016bta-\u015buddhi<\/em> or, for example, those intended to remove <em>do\u1e63as<\/em> (defects) from some offerings. In that way, impurities are dried up by the <em>bija<\/em> of Air \u092f\u0902 \u2018<em>ya\u1e43<\/em>\u2019 and then they are burned by the <em>bija<\/em> of Fire \u0930\u0902 \u2018<em>ra\u1e43<\/em>\u2019. Further, the remained ash is getting wet by the element of Water or Nectar by the corresponding <em>bija<\/em> \u0935\u0902 \u2018<em>va\u1e43<\/em>\u2019 (as it often happens in tantric practices), but sometimes in <em>yogic<\/em> and tantric texts another <em>bija<\/em> symbolising nectar \u0920\u0902 \u2018<em>\u1e6dha\u1e43<\/em>\u2019 is suggested to use instead. Then a newly formed body should be strengthened by the <em>bija<\/em> of Earth \u0932\u0902 \u2018<em>la\u1e43<\/em>\u2019. Some <em>pr\u0101\u1e47\u0101y\u0101mas<\/em> reduce these elements to only three bijas (of Air, Fire and Nectar) because in <em>yoga<\/em>, it is very typical to minimise the practise to the most essential components.<\/p>\n<p>As in a tantric ritual, in\u00a0<em>Ghera\u1e47\u1e0da Sa\u1e43hit\u0101<\/em>, there is a description of the further use of the alternate breathing but in combination with <em>pra\u1e47ava<\/em> \u2018<em>Om<\/em>\u2019. Also, in the third part of\u00a0<em>Vasi\u1e63\u1e6dha<\/em>\u00a0<em>Sa\u1e43hit\u0101<\/em> <em>pr\u0101\u1e47\u0101y\u0101ma<\/em>\u00a0with the use of\u00a0<em>pra\u1e47ava<\/em> \u2018<em>Om<\/em>\u2019, or, more precisely \u2018A-U-M\u2019 &#8211; three <em>m\u0101tr\u0101s<\/em> or counts of breath lengths, is described. It is said that a practitioner must mentally repeat \u0905\u0902 \u2018<em>a\u1e43<\/em>\u2019 a certain number of times on the inhalation, then \u0909\u0902 \u2018<em>u\u1e43<\/em>\u2019 during <em>kumbhaka<\/em> and \u092e\u0902 \u2018<em>ma\u1e43<\/em>\u2019 on the exhalation. It is recommended to meditate on each of the three elements as on one of the Goddesses, namely \u2018A\u2019 &#8211; <em>G\u0101yatr\u012b<\/em>, \u2018U\u2019 &#8211;\u00a0<em>S\u0101vitr\u012b<\/em> and \u2018M\u2019 &#8211; <em>Sarasvat\u012b<\/em>.\u00a0<em>G\u0101yatr\u012b<\/em> is described as \u092c\u093e\u0932\u093e <em>b\u0101l\u0101<\/em> in a Sanskrit text, which usually means \u2018a child, a girl at the age of eight\u2019. She is red in color and rides on a swan (<em>ha\u1e43sav\u0101hin\u012b<\/em>). <em>U-kara<\/em> is\u00a0<em>S\u0101vitr\u012b<\/em>, she is described as \u092f\u0941\u0935\u0924\u0940 \u2018<em>yuvat\u012b<\/em>\u2019 (she\u2019s 15 y.o.). She is white in color and rides on\u00a0<em>Garu\u1e0da<\/em> (<em>garu\u1e0dav\u0101hin\u012b<\/em>). Similarly <em>Ma-kara<\/em>, or repetition of the vibration of \u2018M\u2019 correlates with\u00a0<em>Sarasvat\u012b<\/em>, who is described as \u0935\u0943\u0926\u094d\u0927\u093e \u2018<em>v\u1e5bddh\u0101<\/em>\u2019, she is 28 years of age or older and she rides <em>V\u1e5b\u1e63abha<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>G\u0101yatr\u012bh\u1e5bdayam\u00a0<\/em>from\u00a0<em>Dev\u012b Bh\u0101gavata Pur\u0101\u1e47a<\/em> is said:<\/p>\n<p>\u0965 \u0917\u093e\u092f\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940\u0939\u0943\u0926\u092f\u092e\u094d \u0965<br \/>\n\u092a\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0935\u093e \u092d\u0935\u0924\u093f \u0917\u093e\u092f\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940, \u092e\u0927\u094d\u092f\u092e\u093e \u0938\u093e\u0935\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940, \u092a\u0936\u094d\u091a\u093f\u092e\u093e \u0938\u094d\u0928\u0927\u094d\u092f\u093e \u0938\u0930\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0924\u0940 \u0964<br \/>\n\u0930\u0915\u094d\u0924\u093e \u0917\u093e\u092f\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940, \u0936\u094d\u0935\u0947\u0924\u093e \u0938\u093e\u0935\u093f\u0924\u094d\u0930\u0940, \u0915\u0943\u0937\u094d\u0923\u093e \u0938\u0930\u0938\u094d\u0935\u0924\u0940 \u0965 \u0967\u0968\u0965<\/p>\n<p><em>p\u016brv\u0101 bhavati g\u0101yatr\u012b, madhyam\u0101 s\u0101vitr\u012b, pa\u015bcim\u0101 snadhy\u0101 sarasvat\u012b \u0964<\/em><br \/>\n<em>rakt\u0101 g\u0101yatr\u012b, \u015bvet\u0101 s\u0101vitr\u012b, k\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47\u0101 sarasvat\u012b \u096512\u0965<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the morning it is necessary to worship\u00a0<em>G\u0101yatr\u012b<\/em>, at noon &#8211;\u00a0<em>S\u0101vitr\u012b<\/em>, and in the evening &#8211;<em>Sarasvat\u012b<\/em>.\u00a0<em>G\u0101yatr\u012b<\/em> is red in color,\u00a0<em>S\u0101vitr\u012b<\/em> is bright,\u00a0<em>Sarasvat\u012b<\/em> is dark.<\/p>\n<p>Although, there are differences about <em>v\u0101hanas<\/em> (beings used as vehicles), for example in\u00a0<em>G\u0101yatr\u012b H\u1e5bdayam<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>\u092a\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0935 \u0938\u0928\u094d\u0927\u093f \u092c\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0939\u094d\u092e\u0940, \u092e\u0927\u094d\u092f \u0938\u0928\u094d\u0927\u093f \u092e\u093e\u0939\u0947\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0930\u0940, \u092a\u0930\u093e \u0938\u0928\u094d\u0927\u093f \u0935\u0948\u0937\u094d\u0923\u0935\u0940 \u0964<br \/>\n\u0939\u0902\u0938\u0935\u093e\u0939\u093f\u0928\u0940 \u092c\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0939\u094d\u092e\u0940, \u0935\u0943\u0937\u0935\u093e\u0939\u093f\u0928\u0940 \u092e\u093e\u0939\u0947\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0930\u0940, \u0917\u0930\u0941\u0921\u0935\u093e\u0939\u093f\u0928\u0940 \u0935\u0948\u0937\u094d\u0923\u0935\u0940 \u0965 \u0967\u096a\u0965<\/p>\n<p><em>p\u016brva sandhi br\u0101hm\u012b, madhya sandhi m\u0101he\u015bvar\u012b, par\u0101 sandhi vai\u1e63\u1e47av\u012b \u0964<\/em><br \/>\n<em>ha\u1e43sav\u0101hin\u012b br\u0101hm\u012b, v\u1e5b\u1e63av\u0101hin\u012b m\u0101he\u015bvar\u012b, garu\u1e0dav\u0101hin\u012b vai\u1e63\u1e47av\u012b \u096514\u0965<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the first <em>sandhya<\/em> (in the morning) she is known as <em>Brahm\u012b<\/em>, at noon as <em>Maheshvar\u012b<\/em>, and in the evening she is <em>Vaishnav\u012b<\/em>. <em>Brahm\u012b<\/em>\u00a0rides a swan, <em>Maheshvar\u012b<\/em>\u00a0rides a bull, <em>Vaishnav\u012b<\/em>\u00a0rides <em>Garuda<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Something similar exists in many yogic texts where it is recommended to use\u00a0<em>pra\u1e47ava<\/em> (OM).<\/p>\n<p>For instance, in the fifth <em>upadesha<\/em> of\u00a0<em>Ghera\u1e47\u1e0da Sa\u1e43hit\u0101<\/em>\u00a0(<em>shlokas<\/em> 48-50) there is also a recommendation to use <em>A-kara<\/em>, <em>U-kara<\/em> and <em>Ma-kara<\/em>. But there, <em>A-kara<\/em> is connected with <em>raja-gu\u1e47a<\/em> and <em>Brahma<\/em> and is red in color, <em>U-kara<\/em> is connected with <em>sattva<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Vi\u1e63\u1e47u<\/em> and is black. And <em>Ma-kara<\/em>, in opposite, is white in color and connected with <em>\u015aiva<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Here, as you can guess, some similarities with <em>\u015ari Vidya<\/em> are immediately come to mind. In the third part of <em>J\u00f1\u0101n\u0101r\u1e47\u0101va Tantra<\/em> (<em>shlokas<\/em> 11-12), it is said that <em>Tripurasundar\u012b<\/em> is a Goddess with three aspects, the one is with <em>bija<\/em> &#8220;<em>ai\u1e43<\/em>&#8221; and white in color, the Goddess in red color with <em>kama-bija<\/em> &#8220;<em>kl\u012b\u1e43<\/em>&#8221; and the Goddess <em>suvar\u1e47a<\/em> (the golden color) with <em>bija<\/em> &#8220;<em>sau\u1e25<\/em>\u201d.
