{"id":958,"date":"2021-12-16T15:06:44","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T15:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/matsyendranatha.com\/?p=958"},"modified":"2021-12-16T15:06:44","modified_gmt":"2021-12-16T15:06:44","slug":"about-dhumra-ga%e1%b9%87apati","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/matsyendranatha.com\/?p=958","title":{"rendered":"About Dh\u016bmra Ga\u1e47apati"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <em>Ga\u1e47e\u015ba Pur\u0101\u1e47a<\/em> as well as the <em>Mudgala<\/em> <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Pur\u0101\u1e47a<\/em> refers to \u0927\u0941\u092e\u094d\u0930\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0923 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>dhumravar\u1e47a ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) and \u0927\u0942\u092e\u094d\u0930\u0915\u0947\u0924\u0941 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>dh\u016bmraketu ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>). That is a smoky or ash-coloured <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em> (which is associated with <em>bhasma<\/em>), so this form is deeply connected to Goddess Dh\u016bm\u0101vat\u012b. The <em>Mudgala<\/em> <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Pur\u0101\u1e47a<\/em> lists eight forms of <em>Ga<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u1e47apati<\/em> and the last of them is \u0927\u0941\u092e\u094d\u0930\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0923 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>dhumravar\u1e47a ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>). There is a mention of another form in the <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Ga<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u1e47apati<\/em> <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Pur\u0101\u1e47a<\/em>, one of the four, which is called \u0927\u0942\u092e\u094d\u0930\u0915\u0947\u0924\u0941 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>dh\u016bmraketu ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>). The first form is called \u092e\u0939\u094b\u0924\u094d\u0915\u091f \u0935\u093f\u0928\u093e\u092f\u0915\u00a0(<em>mahotka\u1e6da vin\u0101yaka<\/em>) and manifests itself in the <em>satya yuga<\/em>, the form \u092e\u092f\u0942\u0930\u0947\u0936\u094d\u0935\u0930 \u0935\u093f\u0928\u093e\u092f\u0915 (<em>may\u016bre\u015bvara vin\u0101yaka<\/em>) is manifested in the <em>tret<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101 yuga<\/em>, \u0917\u091c\u093e\u0928\u0928 (<em>gaj\u0101nana<\/em>) &#8211; in the <em>dv<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101para<\/em> <em>yuga<\/em>, and \u0927\u0942\u092e\u094d\u0930\u0915\u0947\u0924\u0941 \u0935\u093f\u0928\u093e\u092f\u0915 (<em>dh\u016bmraketu vin\u0101yaka<\/em>) \u2013 in the <em>kali yuga<\/em>. It is completely normal for different forms of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Ga<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u1e47apati<\/em> to be worshipped at certain time periods. That is traditionally performed every month at <em>chaturthi<\/em> <em>tithi<\/em>, according to the Indian almanac (<em>pa\u00f1c\u0101\u1e45ga<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. In the month of <em>M<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101gha<\/em>, \u00a0\u092d\u093e\u0932\u091a\u0928\u094d\u0926\u094d\u0930 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>bh\u0101lacandra ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>2. In the month of <em>Ph\u0101lguna<\/em>, \u0939\u0947\u0930\u092e\u094d\u092c \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>heramba ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>3. In the month of <em>Caitra<\/em>, \u0935\u093f\u0915\u091f \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936\u00a0(<em>vika\u1e6da ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>4. In the month of <em>Vai\u015b\u0101kha<\/em>, \u0935\u0915\u094d\u0930\u0924\u0941\u0923\u094d\u0921 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936\u00a0(<em>vakratu\u1e47\u1e0da ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>5. In the month of <em>Jye\u1e63\u1e6dha<\/em>, \u0930\u0925 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936\u00a0(<em>ratha ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>6. In the month of <em>\u0100\u1e63\u0101\u1e0dha<\/em>, \u0932\u092e\u094d\u092c\u094b\u0926\u0930 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936\u00a0(<em>lambodara ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>7. In the month of <em>\u015ar\u0101va\u1e47a<\/em>, \u0935\u093f\u0928\u093e\u092f\u0915 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>vin\u0101yaka ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>8. In the month of <em>Bh<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101drapada<\/em>, \u090f\u0915\u0926\u0928\u094d\u0924 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>ekadanta ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>9. In the month of <em>A\u015bv\u012bna<\/em>, \u0915\u0943\u0937\u094d\u0923 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>k\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>10. In the month of <em>K<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101rtika<\/em>, \u092a\u093f\u0902\u0917 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>pi\u1e43ga ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>11. In the month of <em>M\u0101rga\u015b\u012br\u1e63a<\/em>, \u0917\u091c\u093e\u0928\u0928 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>gaj\u0101nana ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<br>12. In the month of <em>Pu\u1e63y\u0101<\/em>, \u0932\u092e\u094d\u092c\u094b\u0926\u0930 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936\u00a0(<em>lambodara ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, according to the <meta charset=\"utf-8\">Ga\u1e47e\u015ba Pur\u0101\u1e47a, \u0927\u0942\u092e\u094d\u0930 \u0917\u0923\u0947\u0936 (<em>dh\u016bmra ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>) is worshipped. He is described with a <em>v<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101hana<\/em> in the form of a blue horse, which differs from the common popular version where he has a <em>v<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101hana<\/em> in a form of a mouse. In this form he is associated with <em>Kalki-avat<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101r<\/em>, a form of <em>Vi\u1e63\u1e47u<\/em>. However, we must bear in mind that in India, followers of different <em>Samprad<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101yas<\/em> may see their principal Deity as the highest. So it is not surprising that for some of them <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Vi\u1e63\u1e47u<\/em> is a manifestation of <em>\u015aiva<\/em>, for some \u2013 <em>Vi\u1e63\u1e47u<\/em> and even some forms of <em>\u015aiva<\/em> are manifestations of the Mother Goddess, and that is also true for the worshippers of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Ga\u1e47apati<\/em>. <em>Dh\u016bmra Ga\u1e47apati<\/em> is therefore a form of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em>, which is the counterpart of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Kalki-avat<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101r<\/em> in Vaishnavism. Although, there are <em>\u015blokas<\/em> describing <em style=\"font-style: italic;\">Dhumravar\u1e47a<\/em> <em>Ga\u1e47apati<\/em> sitting on a mouse (\u0906\u0916\u0941 \/ <em>\u0101khu<\/em>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0927\u0941\u092e\u094d\u0930\u0935\u0930\u094d\u0923\u093e\u0935\u0924\u093e\u0930\u0936\u094d\u091a\u093e\u092d\u093f\u092e\u093e\u0928\u093e\u0938\u0941\u0930\u0928\u093e\u0936\u0915\u0903 \u0964<br>\u0906\u0916\u0941\u0935\u093e\u0939\u0928 \u090f\u0935\u093e\u0938\u094c \u0936\u093f\u0935\u093e\u0924\u094d\u092e\u093e \u0924\u0941 \u0938 \u0909\u091a\u094d\u092f\u0947\u0924 <meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0964<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0964<br><br><em>dhumravar\u1e47\u0101vat\u0101ra\u015bc\u0101bhim\u0101n\u0101suran\u0101\u015baka\u1e25 \u0964<br>\u0101khuv\u0101hana ev\u0101sau \u015biv\u0101tm\u0101 tu sa ucyeta <meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0964<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0964<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>avat<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101ra<\/em> who has the smoky colour, the one who is also the destroyer of <em>abhimanasura<\/em> (the demon of pride). The one whose means of transport is in the form of a mouse, who is actually to be called the essence of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>\u015aiva<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accordingly, it is very common in India to reduce all individual forms of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em> or some other Deity to the most popular forms and their attributes at first. And then, to the yogic experience in general, as for example, in the <em>N<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101tha-samprad<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101ya<\/em>, where <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Ga\u1e47e\u015ba<\/em> has a human face, not an elephant-headed one. That is not because he originally had a human face before <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>\u015aiva<\/em> gave him an elephant&#8217;s head in the famous story. It is simply that for a yogin the human form is closer and the aim of all practices is to realise the divinity in own body, which is what all practices in tantrism lead to. The aim of realisation of a particular mantra (which is one with its Deity) is that your whole psychophysical being becomes a permanent carrier of the reality of that Deity. Continuous total abiding in God means eternity \u2013 the nature of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>\u0101tman<\/em>, which is the goal of <em>yoga<\/em>. However, <em>Dh\u016bmra Ga\u1e47apati<\/em>, like Goddess <em>Dh\u016bm\u0101vat\u012b<\/em>, is the symbolic end of the spiritual path. It is a symbol of the burned-out worldly aspirations (<em>sa\u1e43sk\u0101ra<\/em>), the residing of consciousness in the mundane (<em>v\u0101san\u0101<\/em>), and in general \u2013 of the fire of any passion for life (<em>k<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101m<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u0101gni<\/em>). The worldly man is constantly engaged in a bubbling life full of fire, the last sign of which is the smoke of the funeral pyre, it&#8217;s grey ashes (<em>bhasma<\/em>). He who has forsaken all the useless fuss of the world, strives for the silencing of all &#8216;<em>v\u1e5bitti<\/em>&#8216; (the endless cycle of thoughts) in the mind. Such a devotee strives unceasingly towards the eternity of his true Self (<meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>\u0101tman<\/em>), seeing all worldly things transformed into the nectar of <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>bhasma<\/em>, the symbol of emptiness from which all forms, all activities (\u2018<em>prav<meta charset=\"utf-8\">\u1e5bitti<\/em>\u2019), have emerged. Such <em>yogins<\/em> are in no hurry to go anywhere. Even if they do stay in this world, they are in a very nominal contact with everything. <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Dh\u016bmra Ga\u1e47apati<\/em> and <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><em>Dh\u016bm\u0101vat\u012b<\/em> properly represent the nature of <em>Ketu<\/em> and <em>\u015aani<\/em> in <em>jyoti\u1e63a<\/em>. <em>\u015aani<\/em> is the slowest of all planets, so it constrains the exaggeration in our activities, the same is with <em>Ketu<\/em>.
